In a statement posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Helmut Lang announced that Peter Do will take over as the brand’s creative director effective May 15, 2023. Along with the announcement comes the news that Do’s debut collection for Helmut Lang will be presented during New York Fashion Week in September.

“We are thrilled to have Peter Do join Helmut Lang as Creative Director,” shared Dinesh Tandon. “His clear and innovative approach to design very much aligns with the brand’s ethos and heritage. His experience with luxury fashion houses and his acclaimed eponymous label makes him a natural choice for this role.”

Before being announced as the new creative director, the Vietnam-born designer studied fashion design at New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology, where his affinity for Helmut Lang was born. At the end of those formative years, Do received the highly-acclaimed inaugural 2014 LVMH Graduate Prize, after which he went on to work at Céline and Derek Lam. In 2018, the designer started his eponymous clothing label, which has received praise as a result of their razor-sharp tailoring, architectural construction and textile quality. He will remain at the helm in conjunction with Helmut Lang.

“No one embodied radical thinking more definitively than Helmut Lang. It is my deep honor to be entrusted with ushering in the next chapter of Helmut Lang’s legacy,” shared Peter. “I am excited to learn from the foundations this house stands on and to continue creating new, energetic clothes that inspire people to challenge their understanding of what is possible when it comes to expressing their individuality.”
